Yoga retreat in Amed, Bali: right on the beach

Twice-daily yoga in our garden shala, sunrise over the sea, a coral reef at the door and food made with love. Come on your own, with a friend, or with your group.

A yoga retreat on Bali’s quiet east coast

Most yoga retreats in Bali are in Ubud’s rice fields or the busy beach towns of the south. Ours is somewhere different: directly on the beach in Amed, a traditional fishing village on the east coast where the pace of life has barely changed in decades.

Here you wake to the sound of the waves, watch the sun rise over the sea behind Mount Rinjani on Lombok, and spend the hours between classes snorkelling over the reef, resting by the pool or wandering through the village. It is the kind of place that slows you down from the first morning.

Whether you are new to yoga or have practised for years, we shape your retreat around you: how long you stay, how many classes you take, what you eat and what you want to explore.

Why choose a yoga retreat in Amed?

  • Sunrise by the sea

Amed faces east: start your day on the beach as the sun rises over the water and Lombok, then head to morning class.

  • Truly beachfront

No cliffs, no stairs, no road to cross. The shala, garden and rooms sit on flat land right on the sand.

  • A reef at your door

Between classes, snorkel over a coral garden full of angelfish, bannerfish and wrasse, straight from the beach.

  • Nourishing food

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free cooking, fresh juices and superfood smoothies, with Balinese flavours.

  • Authentic Bali

Village ceremonies, offerings, temples and rice terraces: the Bali many visitors never get to see.

  • Small and personal

Small classes, a family-run hotel with 20 years in Amed, and a team that remembers your name.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a yoga retreat at Life in Amed cost?

It depends on your room, the length of your stay and what you add (classes, meals, massages, excursions). Rooms start at US$75 per night including breakfast, and drop-in classes cost 100,000 IDR (80,000 IDR for hotel guests). Send us your dates and we will send you a personalised quote.

I am a complete beginner. Is this retreat for me?

Absolutely. Our classes are open to all levels and kept small, so the teacher can give you personal attention. Our peaceful garden shala is a beautiful place for your very first class.

Can I come on my own?

Yes, many of our retreat guests travel solo. Amed is a safe, friendly village and our team will help you with excursions, transport and anything else you need.

How long should my retreat be?

Our Bali Bliss package is three nights, but you can stay as long as you like. Five to seven nights gives you time to really settle in. There is a two-night minimum in high season.

Can I combine yoga with diving or snorkelling?

Yes. The reef in front of the hotel is perfect for snorkelling, and our partner dive centre picks you up at the hotel for dives, including the famous Liberty wreck in Tulamben. Many guests do yoga in the morning and dive in between.

Do you cater for vegan and gluten-free diets?

Yes. We were the first restaurant in Amed to serve vegan dishes and organic salads, and we have many gluten-free options, including pancakes and cakes.
